TheImportanceofKeepingOptimistic

Good morning, my dear teacher and students,

I am very glad to deliver a speech here. Today I would like to talk about the importance of keeping optimistic.

When we encounter difficulties in life, we notice that some of us choose to give up. Unfortunately, however, this attitude will do you no good, because if you have no courage even to face them, how can you conquer them? Thus, be optimistic, as it can give you confidence and help you see yourself through the hard times, just as Churchill once said, “An optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity; a pessimist sees a calamity in every opportunity.”

Keeping optimistic, you will be able to realize, in spite of some hardship, there’s always hope waiting for you, which will lead you to the final success. Historically as well as currently, there are too many optimists of this kind to count. You see, Thomas Edison is optimistic; if not, the light of hope in his heart could not lighten the whole world. Alfred Nobel is optimistic; if not, the explosives and the Nobel Prize would not have come into being. And Lance Armstrong is also optimistic; if not, the devil of cancer would have devoured his life and the world would not see a 5-time winner of the Tour De France. A rose may be beautiful, or maybe not; that depends on your attitude only, and so does success, so does life. Burdens and difficulties do exist, but if you are optimistic, then they are only experiences on your long way to the throne of success.

As is with our learning, we are going to face the first challenge in our lifetime ---the university entrance exam, and we are busy taking all kinds of exams all day. There are always complaints surrounding us, such as heavy workload, high expectation from teachers and parents, poor exam results and so on. Meanwhile, some people are suffering from anxiety so they fail to have a sound sleep, which contributes to the distraction/ exhaustion the second day. Eventually, they are trapped in a vicious circle which not only does harm to our learning, but also have bad influence on our moods.

So what should we do to develop a positive attitude? First, focus on the bright side of things instead of complaining about the negative sides. As the saying goes, ”Each coin has two sides.” Second, have a grateful heart. No matter how difficult our situation seems, there is always something to be grateful for and you will find your own value in the gratefulness. Besides, making friends with optimistic people, watching positive shows, listening to inspiring music, and reading encouraging books are all good ways to develop an optimistic attitude.

Friends, the road to success is so long and someone would like to give up halfway, but we should believe that there are more solutions than obstacles! Now I prefer to end my speech with the great British poet Shelley’s lines: “If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

That’s all. Thanks for your listening.
